Can someone recommend one week itinerary for Japan?
We landed in Osaka and went straight to Kyoto. Used that as a base for a week for day trips to Hiroshima, Hikone, Biwa lake, Fukuyama, Kobe and Nara. Then moved to Tokyo for a week and did day trips to Kamakura, Nikko and Hakone (mount Fuji), plus Tokyo is huge and there is loads to see. Flew back from Tokyo
Only visited Tokyo for 3 days
Bought 3 days train pass ( including bullet train) from Tokyo station. It was really difficult to go around as most of the signs were in Japanese .Luckily one of my cousin who lives in Japan for over 35yrs, came to rescue us and took us around in trains for the whole day ( we did almost 35K steps on that day )
We found halal food near Sanjuku train station, from there we walked for 15min to Nawab Pakistani restaurant ( run by Guy from Gujranawala who is living in Japan for 36yrs).
There is Halal restaurant in Sky Tower ( ground floor) with name Siddique palace .We also had halal shawarma near Sensoji Temple .Best to go around in Tokyo is by train ,but you might need google translate or some kind of app for better communication.
I am just on my flight back from Japan.
1- Better take some USD with you for currency exchange. Most of the small shops and even our landlord of the apartment where we stayed for 1/52 only accepted cash and not credit card payment
2- if you are in Tokyo then get your IC Card ( same as travel card) and top it up with few thousand yens. It’s v cheap and cover all over Tokyo in metro. U can even pay at shops with this card.
3- if u have to draw cash from ur debit card in Japan; use “ seven eleven” ATM. There is no local fee for that but your own bank can charge its fee.
4- definitely try Halal Ramen. It’s amazing and delicious. There are few shops near famous Shibuya crossing. Also famous one in Shinjuku area.
5- found Halal nevi to be useful, has recommended few food outlets
6- halal food is no issue in Tokyo at all. There are many donor shops near almost every Metro station.
And not costly as such. 600-700 yen per roll. That makes it almost 5-6 dollars.
7- Tokyo is like a big shopping mall. Everywhere u will see vintage market for designer bags and clothes if u r into it
8- try to go in places in periphery of tokyo. Amazing serene beauty in Zen temples.
9- Not difficult to read sign boards. Just need to get used to see English written in between Japanese symbols. Use ur google translate for everything. V helpful.
Anyone here been to Tokyo? Is there a particular area you can recommend with good halal food shops and transport links to other areas. A quiet area would be my preference, with a decent hotel. Not Ginza though.
