Salam, I’m a bit confused about halal food in Malaysia. For instance, I visited the Pavilion Mall food court in KL, and only three to four places display certified halal signs. A few clearly state they are non-halal, while the rest don’t indicate anything. What’s the situation here? Any guidance would be appreciated, as I’m currently only eating at places that are displaying fully halal-certified.
I would check who are the servers and the chefs! It felt weird by asking and they sometimes would be surprised but there should be a hahal sign for any restaurant which indicates that the restaurant is certified halal by JAKIM ( department of islamic development malaysia)

This is the link of JAKIM to check the verification of halal status of the restaurant/food outlet/ manufacturer. Just type name of the outlet
For extra info: to obtain this halal status by Jakim, they need to apply through Jakim and go under certain process and audit by Jakim. Any restaurant or outlet that displays this sign without being certified by Jakim can be punished by law
But remember it is not mandatory to display a halal signage at the food premises in Malaysia. Therefore, if the premise is owned or operated by muslims expecially the malays, they can be halal for sure, but ask in case!
