Differences between Sunni and Ibadi practice are largely theological and historical rather than affecting the core prayer.
Visa
Apply for the Oman eVisa online at https://evisa.rop.gov.om/. Pakistani nationals must hold a Saudi Arabia Multiple Entry Visa to be eligible.
Journey
The journey from Doha, Qatar to Ibri, Oman is approximately 932 km and takes around 12 hours. Ibri is the first notable town after crossing the Rub' al Khali border between Saudi Arabia and Oman.
There is only one fuel station for about 450 km after the Salwa border (between KSA and Qatar), so plan accordingly.
Unlike in KSA or Qatar where you buy insurance after immigration, in Oman, insurance must be purchased before reaching immigration. There is an insurance building located on the right side of the road, approximately 300 meters before the immigration counters.
Stopover in Ibri
We stayed in Ibri, a city about 150 km from the Oman border, as a mid-point of the journey. The next day, we continued to Salalah, which is another 10-hour drive (around 940 km).
Best Time to Visit
It is not recommended to visit Salalah during months outside mid-July to the end of August, which is the Khareef (monsoon) season. During this time, the region becomes lush and green. Outside of this season, waterfalls are dry, and the landscape turns grey and arid.
Places to Visit in Salalah
• Nabi Ayub (AS) Tomb
• Sultan Qaboos Mosque
• Wadi Darbat (including the hidden pool and gravity road)
• Sandy's Beach (a nice, private sandy beach)
• Al Fizayah Beach
• Family Beach
• Hawana Marina
• Al Mughsail Beach (and the stunning Eftalqout Cliff Viewpoint on the way back)
• Hawana Aqua Park
• Nabi Imran (AS) Tomb
• Koofan Heritage House (150 years old)
• Jabal Samhan (mountaintop views)
• Ayn Khor Waterfall
• Ayn Athum Waterfalls
Return Journey
On our return from Salalah, we stayed in Fahud, a small town near the KSA/Oman border. The drive from Salalah to Fahud is approximately 870 km. Fahud has only one hotel, but staying there saves around 100 km compared to returning to Ibri.
The first fuel station on this route comes about 300 km after the Oman/KSA border. After that, no fuel stations or restaurants are available until reaching the Salwa border in KSA, which is about 450 km from that station.
Road & Travel Tips
• Most roads in Oman are two-way traffic with few speed cameras and minimal traffic, allowing for faster travel—drive responsibly.
• Expect heavier traffic during peak (Khareef) season.
• There are plenty of highway fuel stations in Oman, many with Pakistani restaurants, so dining options are easily available.
