When people talk about Turkey, Istanbul often takes the spotlight. However one question that comes up regularly in our whats app travel forum is: Are there any places near Istanbul that we can visit? To answer our friends just a couple of hours away lies Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire and a city where history, spirituality, and culture meet in a truly unique way.

From the grandeur of the Green Mosque to the calm of its thermal baths, enjoying famous Iskender Kebab or roaming around the colourful streets, it’s a place that connects you to centuries of devotion and tradition. And if you have watched the famous Turkish drama Diriliş: Ertuğrul or Kurulus: Osman, you’ll recognize Sogut, the nearby town where the story of the Ottomans began and where Ertuğrul Gazi is buried.

In our latest blog on Halal Travel Pal, Lana Abdelaziz share why Bursa left such a lasting impression on muslim travellers, its mosques, mountains, halal food, and the unforgettable rhythm of life that slows you down and draws you in.

Have you ever visited Bursa or Sogut? You can’t miss it if you are a fan of the Ertuğrul series that made this history so famous worldwide.
