Saudi Arabia

Let’s be honest, Qatar wasn’t on most people’s radar ten years ago. Now it’s one of the most talked about destinations in our community, and for good reason. Qatar has a way of catching people off guard. You think you know what to expect, and then you get there and it’s something else entirely.

If you only have a few hours in Doha, go straight to Souq Waqif. The moment you step into those narrow alleyways, oud smoke drifting through the air, spice merchants, the sound of the bazaar, falcons sitting calmly on their perches, you feel like you’ve been pulled back a few centuries. It’s the kind of place you wander into and lose track of time.

Then look up, and there’s the skyline. That’s Qatar in a nutshell ,ancient and utterly modern, sitting right next to each other without any awkwardness.

Beyond Doha, the country opens up beautifully. World-class family resorts, a genuinely impressive arts scene, and then the desert, the sand dunes at Sealine are spectacular, For families especially, Qatar is hard to beat. It’s one of the safest countries in the world, completely halal, and set up to make travelling with kids easy.

Best time to visit is October through March, when the weather is genuinely perfect.

There is no way to explain what it feels like to stand in Masjid al-Haram for the first time. Words go quiet. Whatever you expected, the reality of it reaches further.

Start in Makkah. Then travel to Madinah, not just by the fast Haramain train that connects the two cities in under 45 minutes, but along the actual road the Prophet ﷺ walked. Saudi Arabia has launched Darb al-Hijrah, a 470-kilometre journey retracing the Prophet’s migration from Makkah to Madinah. Eleven historically verified locations. Eight rest stations marking the actual places where he stopped.

Madinah itself deserves more time than most travellers give it. The Prophet’s Mosque is extraordinary in a quieter way than al-Haram. Stay an extra night. The city rewards slowness.

Beyond the two holy cities, Saudi is investing seriously in tourism. Diriyah, on the edge of Riyadh, is a restored mud-brick city that tells the story of how the kingdom was built. The Red Sea coastline now has world-class resorts opening along one of the world’s largest barrier reef systems. Abha, in the Asir highlands at 2,200 metres, has a climate and a landscape that will genuinely surprise anyone who assumed Saudi was only desert. And Al Ahsa, in the east, holds the largest oasis in the world alongside cave systems that most travellers outside the region have never heard of.
