Having lived in Istanbul for a while, I can say that it is the most charming place firsthand. Here is a guide to the top 10 family-friendly activities in this captivating city.

1. Visit the Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Mosque)

Your Istanbul journey begins from here, the Blue Mosque is one of the most iconic symbols of Istanbul. It is world-famous for the blue tiles that adorn its walls and for a serene atmosphere of spiritual worship.

The first time I visited, I was surprised by how calm it felt despite the crowds. The moment was surreal, almost too perfect, with the call to prayer echoing across the mosque, the soft natural light filtering through stained glass windows, and every intricate piece of Iznik tile adding to the beauty. Make sure to take your time absorbing it all, your eyes will keep wandering, whether on the massive chandeliers or the delicate Arabic calligraphy, as if trying to catch every last detail, and don’t forget to check out the open courtyard and fantastic architecture at the site.

The most magical way to soak in Istanbul’s stunning skyline is on a Bosphorus cruise.Take a ferry or a private boat, and enjoy panoramic views of landmarks such as Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and Dolmabahçe Palace. This is a relaxed yet awe-inspiring experience for all ages, with kids loving the spotting of seagulls!

I remember the feeling of the breeze on my face as we sailed through the water, the vibrant skyline unfolding before my eyes. It is one of those moments when time seems to stand still, and you realize how truly unique this city is, seamlessly blending history, culture, and natural beauty. It lingers in your memory long after the boat docks.
